No public concerts were held during the classical period; music was enjoyed primarily by the nobility.
Answer the following statement true (T) or false (F)
False
In the eighteenth century, members of the growing middle class wanted to hear music. Public concerts were popular and usually held in theaters or in halls that had been constructed for other uses. Admission was fairly expensive and was limited to subscribers, so the audiences were fairly certain to be knowledgeable about music and interested in what they were going to hear. On the other hand, they were much larger and less exclusive audiences than were common in palaces.
