Discuss various ways in which culture and gender affect processes of self-disclosure. Provide examples

where appropriate to support your answer.

What will be an ideal response?

Cultural background influences what is seen as "standard" or "normal." This results in fairly stable communication characteristics related to self-disclosure within cultures. Gender also affects selfdisclosure because we almost always express ourselves from the perspective of our gender. For
example, men tend to talk about less personal information compared with women, and women tend to
be more validating and confirming in their communication compared to men.
