Ans: The five dimensions of culture are power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism versus collectivism, masculinity versus femininity, and long-term versus short-term orientation. Power distance refers to dealing with others in different physical and intellectual capabilities. The uncertainty avoidance refers to how comfortable a culture's people are on handling unknown situations. High uncertainty avoidance means that the individual has a need for rules, regulations, and a set plan such as job security or a retirement plan. Low uncertainty avoidance individuals are more likely to take risks and are more receptive to change. Individualism versus collectivism refers to whether or not individual achievement/freedom is more focused on versus close relationships with friends and family and taking care of each other. Masculinity versus femininity determines if roles in society are separated or if there is less differentiation between genders in a certain job, such as no wage gap. Finally, long-term versus short-term orientation, which was later added by Hofstede, refers to how long it takes people in their culture to "accept delayed gratification of their material, social, and emotional needs."
