Discuss the different indications for using oral rinses

What will be an ideal response?

A. As an addition to home-care regimens that have failed to achieve plaque-control goals by other means.
B. As an addition to periodontal instrumentation.
C. Where oral hygiene may be inadequate or difficult to accomplish for many people, as in the physically or mentally compromised.
D. Following surgical procedures, when brushing and flossing are generally not practical.
E. As a preprocedural rinse, to reduce aerosolized bacteria in the dental office (when masked, the clinician is protected; however, after the mask is removed, aerosols remain in the dental operatory).
F. For maintenance of dental implants.
Topical antimicrobial agents delivered by a rinse are effective only against supragingival bacteria. No antimicrobial rinse has been shown to be effective against periodontitis because oral rinses do not reach the subgingival area. Mouthrinses may be discontinued if oral health conditions can be maintained without their use.
