Differentiate between moderate anxiety and severe anxiety in clients
The person experiencing moderate anxiety has decreased perception. Their focus is on a particular task or problem rather than on the overall circumstance. When experiencing moderate anxiety, the individual will still be alert and able to think clearly. Concentration, however, will be focused on one challenge at a time. Decisions and judgments will be made on each individual detail as it is experienced or as the person becomes aware of another detail.
?
During severe anxiety, individuals experience an inability to focus on details, or they may be able to focus attention only on one aspect of a situation. Abstract thinking is lost. Some concrete directions may be followed, but learning generally does not take place. Because of the inability to concentrate, these individuals will be very indecisive.
