A popularized interpretation included the view of an uninhibited sex life as part of psychological health. • Changing status of women: The 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote became law in 1920. More women entered the workplace, adding increased independence. • Increased availability of automobiles: Middle class young people could get away from parents' supervision with this newfound mobility.
