Typically when people think of emotional contagion, they think of a friend whose mood can influence their own. However, research has also been done on the effects of emotional contagion in the workplace. Analyze the effects a boss’s mood might have in terms of emotional contagion.
What will be an ideal response?
A boss’s mood can have a strong impact on the productivity and morale of an office. A relaxed boss would contribute to higher morale, but if he or she is too relaxed, might also lead to lower productivity. A very stressed-out boss, however, might lead to greater stress around the office. This would lower morale and might temporarily increase productivity, but would probably have a negative effect in the long term, as stress negatively impacts employee health.
