List some nutrition recommendations that are important for patients to follow after undergoing periodontal surgery
What will be an ideal response?
After surgery, a person's nutritional needs increase due to increased catabolism, blood loss, wound healing, and host-defense activities. As a result, a patient should be provided with a list of nutrient-dense foods and beverages before treatment so that he/she will have these foods readily available after surgery. In the case of significant post-operative pain, a liquid or soft diet should be encouraged. Small frequent meals and snacks that include high calorie/high protein foods should be recommended regardless of diet consistency.
