What is gongche?

What will be an ideal response?

• Gongche is a Chinese notational system similar to the Western do-re-mi system for locating a tone's position in the scale—each tone-symbol stands for the tone's relative place in the scale being currently used (i.e., the Western do is always the first scale degree regardless of its absolute pitch, re is always the second scale degree, mi is always the third scale degree, etc.)
