Discuss some common characteristics of programs designed to prevent dropping out of school.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. Many programs have been developed to prevent dropping out of school. Successful programs have some common characteristics: early preschool interventions; identification and monitoring of high-risk students; small class size, individualized instruction, and counseling; vocational components that link learning and community work experiences; involvement of families or community organizations; and clear and reasonable educational goals. Unfortunately, most intervention efforts are usually not introduced until students are on the verge of dropping out-when it is usually too late.
