All of the networks discussed in this section were baseband communication networks. A baseband network has a single information carrier that is modulated with the digital network data. Broadband communication networks, like the television cable system, use many different carriers and thus support multiple channels of data. Broadband communication systems require more expensive hardware than baseband systems and are typically used for high bandwidth applications, such as broadcast video and FM audio.
