Describe ways to protect files while you are working on them.

A data file is most vulnerable while you are working with it. Many applications offer an AutoRecover option (sometimes called autosave) that automatically makes copies of files as you are working with them. If available, make sure this feature is activated. You might have the option of specifying where and how frequently automatically saved data is stored.
Another strategy for protecting important files you're working with is to manually copy them to a USB flash drive or external hard disk. To copy files to an external device, open File Explorer's Computer folder and use the copy procedure you learned in the previous chapter.
