Products can carry cultural values and many products that are seen to represent a culture have been both widely popular and resisted. An icon is a special symbol that tends to be idolized in a culture. Regarding specific icons, answers will vary, but students may draw from the textbook examples of Coca-Cola, Disney, McDonald’s, KFC, Spam, and/or Nike. Finally, regarding successful marketing, answers will vary, but will likely describe at least one of the following examples from the text: Coca-Cola, Disney, McDonald’s, KFC, Spam, and/or Nike. Answers should articulate how and why each example was successful.
