What inherited factors might put one at greater risk for developing alcoholism?
What will be an ideal response?
It has been demonstrated that personality variables such as impulsiveness and emotional instability might be associated with a greater likelihood of developing alcoholism. Physiological differences in responses to alcohol have also been seen in pre-alcoholic men with a family history of alcoholism. It may be that those who are vulnerable to alcoholism derive more pleasure from alcohol use and/or may have a larger conditioned response to alcohol-related cues.
