What is a victim cache and how is it used?

What will be an ideal response?

A victim cache is a low?cost means of improving the performance of conventional cache. When a cache is full (or there is no room for a new line), an existing line has to be ejected. Because the expelled line was once put in the cache, there is a possibility that it might be needed again. The victim holds lines recently expelled from the cache. However, the victim cache (which is small) is fully associative which means that the effective associativity of the cache is increased at relatively little cost.
