Why are aromatase inhibitors used in postmenopausal women to reduce estrogen levels? (hint: What is the source of estrogen in women with nonfunctioning or surgically removed ovaries?)

What will be an ideal response?

The main source of estrogen in postmenopausal females is from the conversion of testosterone to estrogen. Postmenopausal women continue to produce testosterone in the adrenal glands. Testosterone is converted to estrogen by aromatase. Estrogen produced from the adrenal glands by way of testosterone conversion can be controlled by inhibiting aromatase (using aromatase inhibitors).
