The reliability of components in series is the product of their individual reliabilities. What implications does this have for the Space Shuttle?

What will be an ideal response?

The Space Shuttle has a large number of components in series. Hence, it is very difficult to make the shuttle reliable. Redundant components would be one approach to making the shuttle more reliable, but that would be very expensive. A simpler (fewer components) shuttle would be easier to make reliable.
