How does a computer know whether an arriving frame contains an IP datagram or an ARP message?

The type field in the frame header specifies that the frame contains an ARP message. A sender
must assign the appropriate value to the type field before transmitting the frame, and a receiver must
examine the type field in each incoming frame. Ethernet uses type field 0x806 to denote an ARP
message.
