Compare and contrast the effectiveness of hand hygiene and use of alcohol rubs in hand hygiene
What will be an ideal response?
ANSWER:
Hand hygiene should take place when hands are visibly soiled, or with chlorhexidine gluconate or iodine as antiseptic hand hygiene or surgical scrub when residual antimicrobial activity is needed. Hand hygiene with plain soap and water is not effective against many microbes. Alcohol hand rubs are of choice for most healthcare situations because of its effectiveness against most pathogens and ease of use.
