Explain why adults have more responsibility for their behavior than children do

Children have little or no control over their physical and social environments. They learn behaviors based on the environments they have been exposed to and usually do not know any other way to behave. Adults have a significant amount of control over their own lives. They can change an environment, relationship, habit, or behavior if they choose to do so. Adults can seek to understand the reasons for their behavior and can resist or eliminate harmful early influences. Because adults have the power to become self-directing, they are considered responsible for their own behavior.
