Explain how the Stream Control Transmissions Protocol (SCTP) is used within the TCP/IP network data model.
What will be an ideal response?
A newer element of the Transport layer is Stream Control Transmissions Protocol (SCTP). This was created to provide efficiencies for telephony but is also useful for situations that call for connection-oriented services that are reliable. It is a stream-oriented protocol (unlike the byte-stream-oriented nature of TCP) and multiplexes multiple streams with a single connection. It also offers redundant addressing in which an endpoint can be denoted as multiple IP addresses, thus providing failover support without interruption.
