What four types of barriers exist in the listening process?

Describe them and give an example of each.

What will be an ideal response?

The four types of barriers are physiological, psychological, environmental, and
linguistic. Physiological barriers are bodily conditions that prevent or constrain your ability
to process information. An example would be having a headache. Psychological barriers are
emotional conditions that prevent you from focusing on and absorbing a message. An
example is being apathetic about the topic. Environmental barriers occur when something
within the room or area where the speech is given interrupts your ability to concentrate.
An example would be the room being too hot. Finally, linguistic barriers occur when the
verbal and nonverbal message used by the speaker is unfamiliar or misunderstood by the
listener. An example is using an unfamiliar word.
