Answer: Adolescents are aware of the permanence of death and, if they are religious or spiritual, they think about it in more abstract ways, such as being reincarnated or having a soul that lives on forever. However, they are still limited by adolescent egocentrism. One form of adolescent egocentrism is the personal fable, a belief that they are somehow unique. Thinking they are different from everyone else often leads them to engage in risky behaviors without realistically considering how their actions could result in death.
