• Using lyrics to feature overt political statements or to deal with locally or nationally defined Native issues. Lyrics are also used to speak to their own lives as indigenous people, but this is not universal.
• Blending traditional, local, or tribally specific musical styles of instruments with mainstream popular styles of genres. Mixing English lyrics with their own indigenous language.
