What are convergent and divergent thinking? What methods have been developed to assess
such thinking?
What will be an ideal response?
When asked to produce novel ideas or responses, a convergent thinking can often think
of a limited number of conventional choices. Divergent thinkers, on the other hand,
offer novel, creative responses to problems. To assess such thinking, researchers may
ask people to engage in standardized creativity tasks, produce novel endings to stories
or movies, or intensively study the creative works of people over time.
