Discuss the notion of the "other" in regard to the conquest of the Aztec and Incan cultures

Non-European cultures were thought to be primitive, meaning that they knew nothing of the Christian god and Western culture. At the very least, they required "civilizing." The "Other" is incapable of exploiting their own natural resources for themselves. The West considered those they colonized to be weak, uneducated, and morally bankrupt.
