What are microwave systems, and how did they inspire the idea of satellites?
What will be an ideal response?
ANS: Microwave systems transmit messages by sending electronic signals through the air. The signals are terrestrial, going from one tall tower to another. After World War II, microwave systems replaced telephone cables on highly trafficked routes between major cities. They carried thousands of simultaneous telephone calls between cities rather than between individual mobile handsets. Microwave technology also inspired science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke to come up with the idea for satellites in 1945. They are essentially microwave transmitters launched into space, beginning with AT&T's Telstar satellite in 1962.
