In the United States, a majority of individuals living with HIV are infected by male-to-male sexual contact (CDC, 2013); however, the most common transmission routes differ by community. For example, among Latinos of Puerto Rican background, the predominant transmission category is through sharing infected syringes, but among African-American women, the exposure is predominantly through unprotected heterosexual sex.?
