Compare narrative and nonnarrative content analysis approaches
What will be an ideal response?
Narrative content analysis looks at the meanings found in text based on specific rules and principles. Nonnarrative content analysis can be limited to counts of textual elements. They can be looked at as different degrees of analysis rather than different techniques. Counts can provide a means for indentifying, organizing, indexing, and retrieving data. This can create a snapshot, and be the first step toward a narrative interpretative analysis. An interpretative analysis should involve certain considerations of the manner in which words are used, and allows the researcher to develop ideas about the categories of data. It is in the interpretative portion that the researcher can begin to see patterns and meanings. This analysis should be related to the literature and broader research question. These two techniques are building blocks for each other, rather than reductionist on their own.
