What is the “pay for play” issue faced by global media relations practitioners?
What will be an ideal response?
A key challenge faced in global media relations is the ethical challenge of paying for news coverage. It is not at all uncommon for the media in a developing country to expect payment in the form of advertisements--or cash payments to their reporters--to get editorial coverage. In some markets, it is common for journalists to expect to be paid “expenses” to attend a press event and then write a story or broadcast a news segment afterwards.
