Compare and contrast virtue and divine command ethics

The primary focus of virtue ethics is the heart of the moral agent making the decision rather than the reasoning to a right action. If an individual has attained the emotional disposition and habits of virtue, then when a problem arises he will naturally make virtuous choices. Often, as practitioners, we would solve these problems by asking ourselves what the best traditions of our practices require. In divine command ethics the idea is a simple one, namely, that there is a divine being who has set down a finite set of rules that adherents can follow when making decisions. When confronted with a moral choice, the practitioner using this system would attempt to find an example from life or the scriptures that would provide guidance.
