Tulving and Pearlstone conducted an experiment in which participants were asked to remember lists of words from a variety of categories. Later, half the participants were asked to recall the words without any cues; the remaining participants were asked to recall the words after being given the category names. Tulving and Pearlstone found that participants in:
a. the cued-recall condition recalled nearly twice as many words as participants in the free-recall condition
b. the free-recall condition recalled nearly twice as many words as participants in the cued-recall condition
c. both conditions recalled more than 75% of the words
d. both conditions recalled less than 10% of the words
