What characteristics of the Mogul Courts of India were Islamic, and how did these elements seem to influence Mogul culture?
What will be an ideal response?
One important Islamic aspect of Mogul court culture is the Persian miniature tradition. Not only is the Arabic script on the miniatures the Persian language, but the pictorial traditions reflect Islamic ideals of dress, civilized behavior, and political governance. However, this Islam is pluralistic, and thus very accepting of other cultural influences, including visual elements like linear perspective and the portrait genre. Socially, Akbar instituted reforms that were simply humane, but also a reflection of Islamic values, such as banning the immolation of surviving wives when a husband dies.
