Describe the differences in health care systems for the middle class, the poor, and the military.
What will be an ideal response?
• Middle class: The middle class seeks care from private health care providers and is covered by employer-sponsored health insurance.
• Poor: The poor seek care from public safety net providers who are free of charge or offer services at reduced fees. Care is financed by the individual’s limited resources or through public governmental programs such as Medicaid. Medicaid beneficiaries may also obtain care in the private sector granted the private providers accept Medicaid insurance as payment for care.
• Active-duty military and their families: Care is financed and provided by the military. Dependents are covered by private insurance and may utilize services provided by both the military and private sector.
• Military veterans meeting specific eligibility requirements may obtain care through the federal Veterans Administration system.
