Explain Gersick's model of punctuated equilibrium
What will be an ideal response?
Punctuated equilibrium proposes that rather than evolution occurring as a steady state of gradual change, real natural change comes about through long periods of stasis, interrupted by some cataclysmic event that propels upward, evolutionary adjustment. Gersick's work indicates that teams develop operating norms rather quickly and will operate under these norms until a trigger event, occurring halfway between the initial meeting and the project's due date, causes a change in norms and better task performance.
