Both the goals and the objectives of an MPR plan need to be S.M.A.R.T.: specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and tangible. In other words, a goal that states that you are aiming to increase brand awareness is not enough. A more appropriate goal would be the following: "We will increase brand-name recognition among American college and university students, as determined by an online survey, to 65 percent by the end of the calendar year." Goals and objectives that are S.M.A.R.T. should be sufficient for the next stage of developing an MPR plan ? formulating strategies and tactics.
