Explain why serial ports offered a poor option for networking.
What will be an ideal response?
Serial ports offered a poor option for networking, because they had very slow data rates - only about 56,000 bps (note, that's bits per second!) - and only point-to-point connections. Serial ports were last used decades ago for connecting to networking devices, such as high-end switches, for configuration purposes only.
