a. Follow the proper procedures for dressing and handwashing. Gather all materials needed for the manipulation.
b. Swab all rubber tops with alcohol. Allow the alcohol to dry.
c. Make sure the needle is firmly attached to the syringe.
d. Draw up the correct amount of diluent needed for the reconstitution.
e. Pull back on the plunger to clear the neck of the syringe. Remove the needle and replace with a vented needle.
f. Carefully add diluent to the powdered vial.
g. Gently shake or swirl to dissolve. The powder must dissolve completely.
h. Change the vented needle back to a regular needle and carefully remove the desired amount from the vial.
i. Remove any air bubbles.
j. Withdraw the needle and carefully recap.
