Statistical significance is the probability that a null hypothesis is correct. It states a level of confidence (0.01, 0.05) that there is a relationship between the dependent and independent variable. Substantive significance is calculated only if a relationship is statistically significant; it states the strength of the relationship, and is found by using measures of association. Measures of association can range from 0 to 1. In political science, as measure of association over 0.30 is considered strong.
