Answer will include that with emotion-focused coping, one tries to control one's emotional reactions to the situations by distracting oneself, relaxing, or seeking emotional support from others. In contrast, problem-focused coping is aimed at managing or correcting the distressing situation itself, such as making a plan of action to follow to change the situation or such as seeking tutoring in a subject one is having difficulty with at college. In general, problem-focused coping tends to be especially useful when you are facing a controllable stressor, that is, a situation you can actually do something about. Emotion-focused efforts are best suited to managing stressors you cannot control.
