The story of Noah is, in some sense, a parable of the value of choosing to “walk with God.” How does it reflect, then, the idea of the covenant, God’s agreement with the Hebrews?
What will be an ideal response?
The story of Noah reflects the Hebrew understanding of chosenness and the covenant that Hebrews have with their God. It demonstrates the core belief of Hebrew monotheism—the direct agency of their God in the workings of the world and his creation of a universe that is systematically planned and imbued with a moral order that derives from him. This covenant was reaffirmed when Moses received the law on Mount Sinai and again by Joshua and then commemorated with the Ark of the Covenant. The covenant between God and the Hebrews was also the model for the relationship between the Hebrew kings and their people in which the king provided protection in return for obedience and fidelity.
