Explain how to properly dispose of cytotoxic medications and waste
What will be an ideal response?
Dispose of all cytotoxic medications and related supplies in a yellow, puncture-resistant hazardous container identified as a chemotherapy waste container. There are no exceptions. Chemotherapy waste includes:
* Discarded gloves
* Disposable gowns
* Disposable goggles
* Any other disposable material used during chemotherapy preparation or administration, such as IV bags/bottles, tubing, needles, syringes, and any unbreakable items
Place all cytotoxic waste items in a sealed zip-lock bag before putting them in the hazardous waste container. Dispose of needles and syringes in a hazardous puncture-proof sharps container without clipping or capping them.
