Why do organizations engage in government relations and lobbying?

What will be an ideal response?

In most cases the overall goal is to advocate the organization’s point of view to the government and elected officials. The impetus for this outreach is often business related because new laws or regulatory requirements can add costs or complications to a product or service, and business leaders are focused on keeping costs down and profits up. Usually both approaches (government relations and lobbying) are pursued to increase the organization’s impact and influence on the process while decisions are being made or the law is being debated.
