Explain how parents and teachers can utilize Vygotisky's ideas to help children become more skillful learners

What will be an ideal response?

Answer will include that Vygotsky's key insight is that children's thinking develops through dialogues with more capable persons with these interactions being most helpful when they take place within a child's zone of proximal development. Vygotsky realized that, at any given time, some tasks are just beyond a child's reach. The child is close to having the mental skills needed to do the task, but it is a little too complex to be mastered alone. However, children working within this zone can make rapid progress if they receive sensitive guidance from a skilled partner using a process known as scaffolding. Vygotsky believed that adults help children learn how to think by "scaffolding," or supporting, their attempts to solve the problems or discover principles. To be most effective, scaffolding must be responsive to a child's needs.
