Describe Atkinson and Shiffrin's three-stage model of memory. Be sure to describe the capacity of each stage

What will be an ideal response?

Essay should include:

Sensory memory: first stage which holds brief impressions long enough to be perceived; includes iconic and echoic memories that are sense specific. If one focuses on sensory stimuli it will be retained in short-term memory (working memory) in which information is held for about one minute and can be repeated and manipulated. Short-term memory span: seven plus or minus two. With rehearsal, information can be stored in long-term memory: permanent storage that is limitless but can be inaccurate.
