Compare and contrast different bone replacement materials

What will be an ideal response?

The purpose of using bone replacement materials during periodontal surgery is to enhance the formation of new cementum, bone, and periodontal ligament; they should be osteogenic. That is, they should cause bone cells (osteoblasts) to migrate to and proliferate into the surgical wound. Bone graft materials may be osteoinductive (provide a stimulus for cells to form bone) or osteoconductive, which requires the presence of existing bone around the vertical (infrabony) defect and acts as a framework for surrounding bone cells to lay down bone.
