Describe the first three steps the medical assistant should take if a paper record cannot be found

1. Check the space just in front of and behind the location where the folder should be.
2. Check above and below the shelves where the record should be located, or in the bottom of the drawer.
3. Look for the first two colors of the patient's last name among other records if using a color-coding system.
