Describe the methods and results of the Milgram studies of obedience

What will be an ideal response?

Milgram asked people to give increasingly higher voltage shocks to "Learners" who gave incorrect answers. Learners could be heard, but not seen. Milgram found that two-thirds of all subjects gave the maximum (450 volts) shocks, despite the fact that the Learner stopped responding at some point. People tend to obey authority figures because: the authority figure had a higher status than the subjects, the authority figure was monitoring the person's behavior at all times, and the victim was remote. The power of the situation often determines behavior more so than personality traits.
