Describe the Stele of Naramsin (Fig. 2.10) and its symbolism (MyArtsLab)

What will be an ideal response?

This "Closer Look" shows that the Stele is made of pink sandstone. It celebrates a military victory and proclaims the legitimacy of the Akkadian ruler, Naramsin. One feature is that the ruler appears as a God figure; Naramsin had hopes of dominating all he surveyed. The lower register depicts soldiers marching in staggered lines as if climbing a mountain. Enemies lie flat on the ground or beg for mercy. The ruler is taller than all others, which befits his importance. He wears the horned crown of divinity. The weapons depicted provide valuable information about ancient armaments. The top of the Stele shows stars in the sky and the king seems to commune with them. This shows that he derived his authority from the heavens.
