Discuss several steps to take when beginning to work on a speech and developing the main points

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: Answers will vary. Overall, speakers begin by choosing and wording their main points, then logically arranging them. Steps include the following: 1) Select the main points – ask strategic questions or brainstorm ideas to look at a number of possibilities and options. 2) Limit the number of points – avoid trying to do too much, so limit the speech to two to four points by eliminating those that are least important to the thesis and combining those that are similar. 3) Focus on the audience – choose those points that are most relevant to listeners. 4) Word the main points – carefully choose the language in the points so the descriptions don’t repeat or overlap one another, using parallel style for each level to provide clarity and consistency in language and grammar.
